Frequently asked questions
ADO buses run every 30 minutes from Cancún airport to Playa's bus station (~1 hour, MX$280). Pre-booked shuttles cost USD $40-70. Uber works from the airport but with the usual friction. Driving is straight south on Highway 307.
Cenote Azul (20 min south) is the most family-friendly. Cenote Cristalino sits right next door. Cenote Chaak Tun has the most dramatic cavern formations. Most reachable in under 30 minutes by car or with a half-day tour.
Quinta Avenida (the main pedestrian street) is safe and well-lit until ~midnight when the bar crowd thins. The blocks immediately east of Quinta toward the beach stay active. Outside that core, take a taxi or Uber after dark. Standard tourist-zone precautions apply.
Cozumel for snorkeling/diving and beach clubs — ferry is 45 minutes from Playa's main pier. Tulum for ruins, cenotes, and the Insta-famous beach scene — 1 hour south by car. If forced to pick, Cozumel is the better return-on-time because the ferry drops you in walking distance of everything.
